Why speculative fiction?
Speculative fiction is a playground for wondrous imagination. Time travel, ghosts, alien cultures, inter-dimensional worlds, immortality, and more. Jump in the sandbox and begin building. I love speculative fiction when it comes to my entertainment choice. Sci-fi, fantasy, time travel, paranormal, anything that can be considered "weird." However, most speculative fiction pieces are not written from a Christian worldview. Our worldview is made up by answering two questions:
Many of the sci-fi shows I love do not answer either one correctly. God doesn't exist in their world, just hopeful fantasy. Or, if he does exist, he is cruel, abandoning humanity. Who is man? Man is good enough to save himself. A Christian worldview answers these questions differently. God is all-powerful, all-knowing, ever present, loving father. Humanity was created in the image of God to be rulers of the earth, but we rebelled. Sin corrupted us, and now are incapable of saving ourselves. We need God. Desperately. I love the speculative genre, but get frustrated with the incorrect worldview. So I began writing stories that quenched my craving for the unusual written a Christian worldview. |
